Shops That Sell New Car Batteries

Buy A New Car Battery in Sheffield

shops that sell replacement car battery in sheffield

Find a local car accessory shop to buy a new replacement car battery from in the city of Sheffield in South Yorkshire.

Use our website to find useful information on where to go in Sheffield to buy new car batteries.

The task of buying a new car battery in Sheffield for your particular make and model of car is something that should be easy and straight forward, providing you know where to go?

There are several main shops in Sheffield that sell new car batteries, and who stock replacement batteries for most brands and models of mainstream manufactured cars.

This includes car brands including (but limited to) of:

Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Citroen, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Jeep, Kia, Landrover, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes, MG, Mini, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Proton, Renault, Rover, Seat, Skoda, Toyota, Vauxhall, and Volkswagen (VW).

Buying a new car battery

When the time comes to buy a new replacement battery for your car there are several things that you should check or be aware of before going ahead with your purchase.

One of the first things is to check if the battery has reached the end of it's useful service life or if it has become faulty?

Is the battery on your car constantly going flat in a short time? Is the engine struggling to turn over, and especially on a cold morning, perhaps in Autumn or Winter? Has the car been stood resulting in the battery becoming discharged? How old is the battery that is fitted to your car?

Have the battery tested

The easiest way to find out what the condition of the battery is can be established by having the battery tested. This needs to be done by an experienced person that has the right car battery test equipment.

Most reputable garages will be able to do this job for you, as well as some of the well known large car accessory shops in Sheffield. One being the large Halfords store that is based at Drakehouse Retail Park that is close to Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre. This is on the Southern side of Sheffield and within just a short commute time from Beighton, Charnock, Gleadless, Hackenthorpe, Killamarsh, Halfway, Manor Top, Ridgeway, Sothall, Waterthorpe, and Westfield. Drakehouse Retail Park can also be easily accessed from all other areas in Sheffield via the A57 Sheffield Parkway Road.

Is the battery being charged by the charging system on your car?

After the battery has been tested it may also be wise to have the charging system tested too! With the right equipment this is a really simple job that usually just takes a minute of time or two.

Charging system ok? Buy a new replacement battery for your car?

If the charging test shows that your cars charging system (usually the alternator and voltage regulator) is working as it should, the result of the battery test will dictate whether your battery simply needs a re-charge, or whether you need to buy a new battery. If the battery is in good order then you should give it a full re-charge by way of using a good quality battery charger. If however the battery has reached the end of it's life or has a number of faulty cells - now is the time to buy a new one.

Buying a cheap replacement car battery

When shopping around for a new car battery in Sheffield you should decide whether you want to buy the cheapest replacement battery that you can find, a good quality battery at a cheap price, or a recognised high quality battery such as a Bosch, Exide, Lion, Lucas, RAC, or similar make?

Cheap car batteries usually offer a limited service life, and especially the non branded or unknown brand names of replacement car batteries. Really low priced batteries normally have a shorter warranty length than recognised battery manufacturers too, so expect no more than two years guarantee to be offered on a cheap priced car battery!

Good, reliable, long life batteries

If you want to buy a good and reliable new battery for your car it is recommended that you stick to well known car battery manufacturer names that you recognise. this includes names such as Bosch, Exide, Lion, Lucas, and maybe AA or RAC branded batteries. Halfords have their own range too and these usually offer a good balance between the price paid and their expected service life.

Water Pump Hire in Sheffield

Hire a water pump in Sheffield

Water pump hire in Sheffield

There are several circumstances when you may need to hire a water pump.

You may have suffered from a burst pipe in your home and need the use of a water pump to assist you in your "recovery" process?

Perhaps you are undertaking some groundswork outside and need to pump away some excess water from the foundations you are digging and preparing?

Have you suffered from a water flood and need to pump away the dirty water and residues that remain?

How to hire a water pump in Sheffield

The process of hiring a water pump in the city of Sheffield is simple and straight forward. All you need to do is contact your local tool hire shop and and make an enquiry for a water pump that will suit your individual needs and requirements.

Water pumps can be obtained in differing sizes and specifications to suit the job you have in-hand. You can choose to hire a pump for handling "clean" water, "dirty" water, water that has sludge residues within, and water pumps that are electric or engined driven too.

Different capacity water pumps can be rented as well, with a rating of how much water a pump can flow through per hour when in use.

Puddle Pump

You should choose to hire a puddle pump when the water level that you need to pump has dropped to such a low level where a traditional submersible pump becomes ineffective. Puddle pumps are able to pump away virtually all the standing water.

Submersible Pump

Often referred to as a "sub pump", one of these items of equipment can usually be sourced from any of the local tool hire shops in Sheffield.

A submersible type pump is often used for emptying flooded basements in buildings, it is also useful for pumping away excess water from containers and garden pools and ponds.

Trash Pump

Trash pumps are commonly chosen for hire in Sheffield for the job of pumping away water on construction and industrial sites with water that contains solids or sludge within. A trash pump is usually portable being powered by a compact sized four stroke petrol engine.

Access Tower Hire in Sheffield

Work Safe At Heights With Sheffield Access Tower Hire

Access Tower Hire in Sheffield

An alloy access scaffold tower can help you to work safer when working at height.

One of these items of non-powered access equipment can provide contractors and staff the ability to work in a safe and stable manner when undertaking inspection work, maintenance work, decorating and cleaning at heights, and the carrying out of essential repair work to buildings in Sheffield, structures, and also items of machinery and plant.

Access towers are commonly and regularly used by the following trades:

Aerial fitters, Builders, Chimney sweeps, Cleaning contractors, Decorators, Engineering personnel, Heating and ventilation engineers, Lighting installation and maintenance companies, Machinery maintenance staff, Plumbing and pipework engineers, Roofing contractors, and more.

Preventing a fall when working at height

It is recognised in UK industries that the use of an alloy access tower can help prevent a fall when working at a height.

Although there are other methods of working at height (such as items of powered access equipment) an access tower is one that is easy to use, versatile for a wide range of applications, and is cost effective too when compared to the typical hire costs of a cherry picker or scissor lift.

Use an access tower and work safer:

If you intend to hire an access tower in Sheffield for carrying out any type of work at heights, its important to ensure that the type of tower selected is suitable for the work in-hand, and is also erected, used, and dismantled by people who have been trained and are competent to do so.

Access tower hire Sheffield for use indoors and outside:

Depending on the specific work that is being carried, access towers can be used inside as well as outside. With the exception of working in hazardous areas where there are live electrical cables (in these instances a non conductive access tower should be used) most alloy towers can be used indoors as well as outside.

Choosing the right access tower to hire in Sheffield:

When considering the rental of an alloy tower for use in Sheffield it is recommended that (unless you know exactly what you need) you check with the individual access tower hire company that your considering using for their recommendation on the the right choice of tower to suit your individual needs.

Several things that should be considered are:
  • where will the tower be sited?
  • is the ground level and stable?
  • what hazards have been identified?
  • what platform height of access tower would you need to hire? what width? (single or double width?)
  • are stabilisers and outriggers supplied?
  • do you need castors to allow easy movement and positioning?
  • what type of work will you be carrying out whilst using an alloy tower?
Once these points are covered you will be in a position to decide on exactly what type and size of access tower you need to hire.

Tower Specifications:

The specifications and physical sizes of alloy access tower units can vary from one make of access tower to another. Usually though a single width tower (used in restricted areas) has dimensions in the region of  0.7m wide and 2.5m length, a double width tower is typically 1.35m wide and also 2.5m in length.

Other lengths of tower are becoming more popular and in particular the length sizes of 2.0m and 3.0m in addition to the industry standard 2.5m length tower.

The platform height of a single tower can be varied depending on the manufacturers specification and on how many frame sections you use. The more sections used means a greater working height can be achieved. When calculating the height of access tower needed ensure you consider the platform height, the working height, and possibly ask about the guard rail height too.

Some popular sizes of tower that are hired are the "platform" heights of:

  • 1.4m
  • 1.8m
  • 2.34m
  • 2.8m
  • 3.25m
  • 3.70m
  • 4.2m
  • 4.65m
  • 5.13m
  • 5.6m
  • 6.0m
  • 5.15m
NB: Other sizes are available for working safer at greater heights

Ladder Frame or Non-ladder Frame?

A "basic" tower requires an internal ladder to be used to reach up to the platform height. A "ladder frame" unit does away with the need for this additional piece of equipment. On this type of unit a ladder is built into the frame of the tower itself, allowing the user to climb up inside the tower and onto the top platform.

Good Motorcycle Shops in Sheffield

It's great for Sheffield to have SMC...

In the not too distant years there was a real shortage of good motorcycle dealerships in the city of Sheffield in South Yorkshire. If you have been a local "biker" for many years you may well remember some of the "old" dealerships and motorcycle shops that used to be based here, with a "blast from the past" do you remember Richardsons? (main Suzuki dealer), Bentleys? (Abbeydale Road), Wilf Green's MZ dealership?, DC Cook? (5 star Honda dealership at London Road), Empire Garage? (Fantic and Lambretta dealer - was this on Machon Bank Road?), as well there used to be a Kawasaki dealership at Firth Park, a Harley and AMF dealer on Abbeydale Road (near to Edgedale Road), Smiths on Spital Hill (just up the road from the Wicker Arches) and lots more...

For accessories who can remember "Ropers" that used to be on London Road? - This shop used to be an Aladdins Cave when it came to motor bike accessories, consumables, and clothing!  ** You can read more on the shops that have come and gone on the Sheffield Forum website. There also used to be Lewis Leathers at the bottom end of The Moor.

With all of these historic shops gone it is really great that SMC have committed to being here and especially with the main dealerships for in particular Suzuki and Yamaha! Wouldn't it be great if they could secure a Honda dealership too as that is one motorbike brand that is lacking support in this part of the UK? But we can't be ungrateful with what Sheffield Motorcycle Centre has given back to this city - in all, a really good motorcycle shop....

Some common questions we get asked about the hire of a hot tub:

How much does it cost to hire a hot tub?

The charge to hire a hot tub in Sheffield varies depending on how long you want it for, as well as whether you want a hot tub on it's own or alternatively with some useful add-ons. This could be a quantity of aromatherapy sachets, a few stand-alone mood lights, or how about a couple of champagne buckets?

Typically though - hot tub rental costs as little as £125.00 upwards.

How many people can be accommodated in a hot tub?

This varies depending on the individual model of tub / spa supplied. Usually they will accommodate a minimum of 4 people upwards.

Can the water temperature be varied?

Yes, all of the units have an adjustable temperature control.

How long does it take for the water to fully heat-up?

It usually takes around 30 to 48 hours depending on several factors. Warm water can be used (if there is a nearby hot water tap / supply) to speed this waiting time up though.

Will the hot tub be clean and ready to go?

The hot tub will have been totally cleaned prior to the start of your rental period. The delivery personnel from our Sheffield hot tub hire company will also undertake some installation procedures to get your tub / spa up and running.

Will I need to provide an electrical supply?

Yes, a standard 13amp 3 pin wall socket is required for the hot tub to be plugged in. This must be a nearby socket that is close to where you want the hot tub positioned in your garden.

Can the the hot tub be placed on decking?

Yes, providing there is a nearby electrical supply and also a water supply to fill the hot tub up with water, this can be just an outdoor garden tap which we can run a hose to for water filling purposes.

Can the hot tub be connected to the mains supply with an extension lead?

Yes, but only with a lead which we will supply when the hot tub is delivered to your Sheffield location. The lead supplied will be heavy duty trailing cable that will reach up to maximum distance of around 15 metres from where the hot tub is to be sited in your garden.

What type of ground can the hot tub be placed on?

When you choose to hire a hot tub the ground or site must be stable, as when filled with water it will weigh a fair amount even before you start to use it. The ground must be flat and stable, ideally being a patio, strong wooden decking, or a flat lawned area in your garden.

Is a drain required to empty the hot tub after it has been rented?

A suitable garden drain or soak-away is needed to drain the water away after you have finished the hire of your hot tub. The tub will need completely empting of the water within when your rental period has ended so it would be beneficial if a drain is nearby in your garden. Alternatively we can pump the water onto a lawn or other chosen soak-away area.

We hope you have found this article on Sheffield hot tub hire useful, further resources on hire services in Sheffield can be viewed here

How to fix your Galaxy Tablet Battery Charging Problem

Is your Samsung Galaxy 8 Tablet not charging like it used to?

Does it seem to take ages and a very long time to recharge your Galaxy Tab 3?

Does the Samsung Galaxy 8 Tab that you own hardly show an increase on the charging bar on its screen?

If any of these symptoms are what you are experiencing you will no doubt be frustrated with with this problem on your tablet.

The Samsung Galaxy 3 Tab 8.0 is a very sophisticated tablet, it is packed full of useful features and has one of the highest specifications out there when it comes to one of these devices. Running on the popular Android platform it is now wonder that a Galaxy Tab is one of the most popular quality tablets that people of all ages choose to buy and use.

Problems

Unfortunately as with every type of tablet on sale (including the high priced Apple Ipad) the Samsung Galaxy Tab3 8.0 does occasionally throw up the odd problem or fault, and a reluctant to recharge it's internal battery pack is one that is quite common. Another is the way in which it can occasionally just drop it's wif-fi internet connection, but that issue is usually easily solved by way of clearing out the browsing history and cookie cache from it's memory.

Back to the problem of your Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 not charging....

There are several steps that you can take at home to try and fix this fault. These can all be carried out at home avoiding you taking the tablet to a local pc repair shop or the shop where you originally purchased your Samsung Tablet from, after all you don't really want to be making a special journey to say PC World in Sheffield on a lovely Sunday afternoon if you can fix it easily yourself!

Common Battery Charging Problem with the Samsung Galaxy Tab

It seems as if battery charging problems are quite common on this particular device, below are some of the common situations that you can experience:

  • The battery takes hours to fully charge up
  • The battery charging bar (symbol) does not seem to increase in size on the display
  • The tablet refuses to charge anymore
  • The battery charges intermittently

A common trait with this particular tablet seems to be that it recharges perfectly one day, and yet the next time you go to charge it the Galaxy tablet 3 seems to refuse a charge and takes hours for the battery pack to even start to recover. The charging indicator hardly moves at all - an in some cases just remains at the same level event after many hours of the device being plugged in.

Things to check to fix the battery charging problem on a Samsung Galaxy Tab

These are the tips and methods that you can try to solve the problems mentioned above that you may be experiencing with your own tablet.

In our experience we recommend that you try these in the order listed.

  • Hold down the power button for 60 seconds and reboot the tablet, then attempt to charge
  • Hold down the power button for 30 seconds whilst holding the volume up button, then try to recharge
  • Go to "Task Manager" (one of the apps preinstalled) and turn off several apps that are running - try turning off facebook, twitter, & youtube if these are running. (Try and turn off at least 3 apps) Then plug-in and try to recharge.

Fingers crossed, when plugged in your Galaxy Tab 3 will now start to charge up it's internal battery - as quick and as good as it used too.

Still having a battery charging problem? Proceed to this method below.....

Please Note - if the above have failed we are getting to near the end of the method and ways in which you can fix this fault, it is worth mentioning that for the following method to work at all you must be using a genuine Samsung battery charger, if you aren't now is the time to borrow one from a friend or a member of the family, or if need be go out and buy one.

Do not try and revive the battery pack by way of using a different charger unit that you may own or that you may have in your home from a mobile phone, or one that is not 100% genuine Samsung - despite the many replacement tablet chargers that are available for sale from businesses and shops Nationwide in the UK, you really do need a Samsung Galaxy Tab Battery Charger for your tablet to work correctly.

Best way to repair your Galaxy Tab 3 that won't charge:

First, make sure your tablet is switched on (even if the battery level is really low).

Swipe the "screen display lock" slider to proceed to the normal display screen. Next open up an app, this can be the internet browser or a document, or a game that doesn't draw much power. What you need is an app open that is consuming a very small drain on the battery pack. Do not load a video up or an app that has a lot of activities present - we recommend where possible a simple game that you may have on your tablet such as angry birds or even a chess game, even a song or tune that you have stored on your tablet will be ok.

Next, plug the end of the charging lead into the charger port socket on the end of your tablet, make sure this is pushed squarely into the socket and is firmly home. Then plug the chargers plug unit into a wall socket, do use an extension socket or a surge protector socket, it needs to be a standard mains socket that is in your home. With your tablets chosen "app" still running keep an eye on the battery charge indicator, this may not show an increase in the charge capacity at first - but the charging symbol (a lightning strike symbol) should be present.

Leave the app you chose running whilst the tablet is plugged in, and leave the tablet alone for at least 2-3 hours. Hopefully when you next look at your Galaxy Tab the battery level indicator will have changed it's status - indicating it is now accepting a charge.

Although it may be tempting to use your tablet - please refrain from doing so, just leave it plugged in for at least 5-6 hours before you do anything with it. Within this time (unless there is a critical fault) your tablet will have revived it's internal battery providing it is still serviceable.

To recap the steps:

  • Switch the tablet on
  • Swipe the display slider to unlock the tablet
  • Open up a basic app such as a music file, a music album, or a simple game
  • Plug the charger lead into your tablet
  • Plug the charger unit into a wall socket
  • Leave to trickle charge for at least 5 hours
  • An app must be running whilst the unit is plugged-in to charge

Common questions regarding this problem

Why does my tablet refuse to recharge?

This could be because of a number of reasons. The tablet may have a critical fault with one of it's internal components, the battery charger could be faulty, you may have a non-genuine battery charger, or the battery pack inside your charger may be just stubborn and reluctant to charge-up.

If I let my battery run down to a low level can that prevent it charging?

Yes, running your Samsung tablet down to a very low level can activate it's internal software / firmware - which can stop it re-charging. This is a common problem with this brand of internet tablets.

Can I use a cheap priced replacement battery charger?

If you use a non-genuine Samsung battery charger you will encounter problems at some time. For reliability and a good service length it is advised you only use an original Samsung charger with your tablet.

Why must I have an app "running" for this repair method to work?

By having an app running the tablet is draining it's battery whilst it is being recharged. This "usage" tells the Galaxy Tablets sophisticated software and firmware that a drain is being placed on the battery and so it needs to activate it's internal charging system to restore this lost capacity. In effect you are tricking the tablet into what it needs to do.

What if my tablet won't switch on at all?

If this is the case try to leave the tablet plugged in overnight to see if this helps. If it doesn't your galaxy tab 3 may need a hard reset. Here are some useful details on how to carry this "hard reset" out.

Can the battery pack inside be restored?

In most cases yes - using the methods above will restore your battery back.

How can I stop this battery charging problem from happening again?

Although this is not mentioned in the manufacturers instruction guide we recommend the following - where possible do not let your tablets battery level drop down below 50%. As soon as it reaches this level plug the unit in to the mains supply and recharge it, do this with the tablet switched on.

Finally, we hope this article has been of use to you and has allowed you to fix your Samsung Galaxy Tablet. If your tablet is still not working as it should it may be because the battery pack is aged or has damaged cells within it. If this is the case it will need a new battery pack installing by a repair company that provides this service.

Marquee Hire Companies in Sheffield

Sheffield Marquee Hire for events and weddings

A marquee can make a real difference to a wide range of outdoor events and functions. Marquees are suitable for corporate as well as private events in addition to outdoor public gatherings that include agricultural shows, country fairs, craft fairs, trade shows, and all types of festive occasions.

Outdoor corporate events can be made that little bit different if you choose to use a company that provides Sheffield marquee hire, the same goes for family celebration events including anniversary celebration parties and weddings.

Weddings in particular always seem that little bit extra special if the wedding ceremony or party is hosted in a beautiful marquee, it can really change the atmosphere for a wedding reception - especially if the marquee is sited at a fabulous and special wedding venue place.

Country Fairs and Shows

Visit any country fair or show and you will see marquees, in this environment they could be used in a functional way for the temporary displaying and storing of commodities and products safely inside, and away from the elements. They can also be put to use for creating VIP areas for guests and important visitors, in effect an area where people can mingle and socialise away from the crowds.

Trade Fairs and Outdoor Public Shows

It is common to see this type of structure at an outdoor trade fair as well as at an outdoor public show. From time to time in Sheffield you will see marquees in use on some of the large parkland areas that feature in Sheffield including large parks such as Endcliffe Park, Graves Park, and Hillsborough Park.

Trade exhibitors often choose to use a marquee to display their goods and products including examples such as new cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles, sports clothing and fitness equipment, drink and food products, and much more.

Cookery demonstrations and woodworking demonstrations often create a need too for marquee hire, again being a suitable temporary structure that can accommodate a good number of visitors - yet offering a good level of protection from the Yorkshire weather.

Your Sheffield Wedding Venue

With the city of Sheffield being on the edge of Derbyshire as well as the lovely Peak District, it is no surprise that marquee hire for weddings are always in demand during Spring, Summer, and the early months in Autumn.

The spectacular venue locations that are in these two areas really lend themselves to the use of a marquee for the bride and grooms big day - but that does not go to say that Sheffield itself doesn't have any suitable venues that cater for the erection and placement of a marquee.

Sheffield has some really large historic houses and luxury hotels that can accommodate a marquee for your wedding, the Kenwood Hall hotel in Sheffield is just one to mention. Another one is Whirlowbrook Hall.

Things to consider when arranging Marquee Hire in Sheffield
